Ilearned that not everything is what it seems and that many ads sometimes use subliminal messages.

I definitely learned a lot about advertising. For one thing, I now know that not everything adv4ertisers say is real. I also learned some pretty gross things about food in advertisements from your links. I now also pay more attention to the clothes I wear and what brands/ logos they have. I know that advertisers constantly are making up lies just to make their product look good, and seize any chance to make their product look/seem better. I think this topic is interesting and I’d love to learn more.

I leared that not every thing is as good as it look or what things say they will do, (ex. jeep). I als learned about the food advertising world, as katie said.

I learned that advertisers have a very specific audience that they appeal to; anything from whether you’re an adult or a kid or what ethnicity you are. I also learned that advertisers can be downright hypocritical- a cigarette company saying not to smoke- just to look better. Everything is DEFINITELY not what it seems in advertisements. I’ll definitely pay more attention to the brands I wear from now on, and I hope I’ll put less stock in buying “brand-name” clothes. :)

I learned a lot about ads. I learned what makes a good ad and what makes a bad ad. I learned about the food on commercials and how gross it really is. I like the new way I look at ads, it makes me enjoy and appreciate them more than I did before.

    I learned that….
-when you buy brand name clothes with the names of the co. on them, you’re basicly paying THEM so YOU can advertise their stuff
-not everything is real (ex. driving a Jeep won’t make singing animals jump into your car, a Burger King burger will not look like the ones in the ads, Gatorade does not make you score the winning goal, etc.)

PS: Brandon, what does “subliminal” mean????

I really have learned a lot about advertisments from your class. I learned that it’s a lot more complicated to make an ad than it looks, and how desperate advertisers are to get your attention. I also learned that not everything is what they say they are in ads. I’ve also learned not always to trust commercials and print ads.

I have learned a ton about ads and how we and others view them. One thing that i have picked up during the ads lesson is that a professional or famous person helps the commercial sell the product that they are advertising. I also now know not to be suckered in just because of the colors, people, or something special about the ad. Another thing i learned about ads that has made me to view them differently is the food commercials. They waste a big amount of food by finding the perfect bun or meat etc. This shows that they do this just so people will by their product, and when you do buy it its definitely not going to look as good as the one on television. It goes to show that learning about ads the past week has definitely changed me in good ways and bad ways.

Next time i see a commercial with Mark Sanchez or a juicy burger i’ll know just to walk away

During this unit I have learned quite a few things about adds. One thing is that we are walking advertisements. People wear logos and brands and company names on clothing every day. I also realized how many brands and logos I have in my closet. Now during homeroom and in the hallway all I see are brands an it’s kind of annoying. Also from the web-sights we went on and all the commercials you have showed us, every commercial is pointed at a specific person or gender. They make some commercials so intersesting and fun though like the jeep one with the singing animals.
There is so much to say about them its hard to put it all in words.

    see you all im class!

    Hi Mrs. Kelly,
I have learned so much about advertisments and it as all been helpful. I used to just look at an ad for something and pay no attention to it and it was like it wasn’t even there or something, but now that we have learned what we have learned I don’t just see a losion ad and not care; i would just either change the channel until the actuual show came on but now i actually break it down and think about why they did… or who they were planning on making their target audience in this particular commercial. I would also maybe flip the page and just look for the actual reason that i was reading that magazine or newspaper etc. Advertisments are a huge part of finding a job and so that means this lesson is helping me in my life now as well as in 20 years or so. Another thing is that ads that you see on the sidewalk; like on a build board or something you actually might want to use the product that they are showing so you might want to actually pay attention to it instead of just keep walking because it might be all you got or your best choice of help. So overall this was and is one of the most helpful lessons for the rest of my school years and the rest of my life!

    Thank you!!!!!!!! ~Annie R

I’ve learned about why advertisers use certain colors, pictures,or graphics, how the placement of images and little details can affect where you look, and even how the person used to shoot a print ad, commercial, or billboard can affect the kind of impact the ad makes on you. Now when reading or watching TV, I can’t help but think, “This is placed here because…”, “I think the target audience is…”, or “These colors/This person/That photo was used because…” When I get dressed, I think, “How many ads am I wearing today?” Last night I looked at my pajamas and realized both the pants and shirt I was wearing were ads! My pants advertised the 2005 New England Oriechtas and my shirt Martha’s Vineyard and The Black Dog 2005. (No, the 2 2005′s weren’t intentional ;) .)

I learned that commercials are usually not what they seem. Food commercials especially, because they are allowed to make fake food to make the visual look more appealing, even if the ingredients are not used in the real product. Also, when commercials say that some type of special effect will happen if you eat/drink their product, the claim is almost always fake. i will also look at commercials through a different perspective now because i will think about who the target audience is and the techniques used to draw you in.

So far what I’ve learned is that when you see an ad for something that looks really cool and fun and on the ad they can do it perfectly, normally it isn’t as easy or doesn’t comes with everything that is in the commercial or is a lot smaller than it looks. So you can’t always trust an ad, so you should ask a friend that has one to make sure it is something worth while. I have also learned that in commercials and in print-ads they place the product in a certain spot so your eyes will definitely see the product being sold.

I have learned that commercials can bend the truth to make you want the item, and make you feel almost “cool” if you bought that item. Another thing that I learned from the this section is that advertisers can relate or focus on one specific gender or race to make that person feel almost special. Lastly what I learned is that the advertisers will “make” your eyes go to where they want them too on a add.

I learned a lot about commercials this week. Some things that surprised me were that people use things like paper towels and glue instead of food in advertisements. You can’t always trust adds. Sometimes they can be very misleading and trick you into buying something you don’t want. Also I thought it was really interesting how some people use certain colors to make you feel a certain mood. I don’t like hoe some people use famous people just to draw you in. I love learning about the commercials in class and hope we stay in the topic for a really long time!!!
    Thanks,

    Mrs. Kelly–
I have learned a ton about advertisments so far and I am loving it! I view advertisments differently. Now I am excited when the advertisments come on tv. But the food ads arent going to intrigue me anymore. I never knew that people buy 100 hamburger buns and they glue the seeds to the bun. Also I remember to look at the bottom of the screen when the advertisment is going on, because they say things like “side affects are blindness!”

Now I have learned the three diferent types of advertising and now when ever I see an ad I try to think what type it is. I learned that almost always the bad parts of a product are always at the bottom in tiny print or are said fast.

I learned that almost all of the food advertisments are fake and sometimes isn’t even food. I also learned that when the ads come on for cool toys and stuff they make the ones on the commercial work better than they do in real life once you buy it. Lastly when there are commercials for weight loss products or skin care things and people are talking about something and how good it is when at the bottom it says results not typical.

I have learned so much in the past few days learning about the advertising. What I noticed and what I am going to be talking about and annoying my family so I do not forget it is that the food is FAKE the advertisers use super glue to glue on sesame seeds on a hamburger bun, also the ice cream is made out of powdered sugar with some other ingredients to make the ice cream so it never melts and it stays in a perfect shape. I wonder how long it takes and how many tries to make the perfect hamburger or ice cream. I know it will disgust me. Tomorrow I am going to show everyone my advertisement.

    Mrs. Kelly-

I’ve learn a lot about ads lately in class. In a ad they have things that give you a false inpresion. For example on that website we went on it told us about the things they do to make a hamburger look good by using glue and other things that you don’t really have in the burger when you get it. We also talked about Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Ethos is when they show a celebirty or a person that you tust. Pathos is when they make you feel for the people, animals, ect. in the commercail or ad. Ethos is when they state the facts about the product(true facts). Also I’ve been looking at the company/logos on stuff more offten and it has affected me.

    Dear ms.Kelly

I view advertisements so differently now that we have been analyzing them! I look at the little facts on the bottom of the print ad/ commercial. I get why they try to keep you from seeing the warnings, most of them are not worth it!!!! In the future i will try not to be to be persuaded by the company’s catchy phrase, i will look at the warnings!!!

I’ve learned alot in ads and how to dissect them, like in paper ads, there are angles that always start/end at the product. Also how in commercials (TV) people can waaaaaay over exaggerate the music, realism, etc. I had a great week!

I learned that a lot of advertisement companies use fake food products or make food to sell the food. This makes the food look amazing and perfect and before i learned about what they did to the food i wanted to get the food because it looked so perfect. Another thing i learned is with models they fix all the flaws on a computer so it looks like they’re perfect even thought there not. Although i just recently learned what they did to the models i never was intrigued or fascinated by the models. It didn’t appeal to me because I could almost tell they were fake just by looking at them.

i learned sooooo much Mrs. Kelly. The most important thing had to be when we learned about advertising food on get smart media. it was really interesting how the hamburgers were made of brown food coloring and molasses. it is also made of paper towels, super glue, water, and glycerin. Now whenever i am watching commercial i always change my mind about going to the restaurant. If they actully had good burgers then they would show a REAL burger. I found a great ad and can’t wait to show the class!!!!

I have learned a lot during the ads lesson. The biggest thing I learned is that most foods in commercials are not what they look like, such as the burgers. The sesame seeds on the buns are glued on and the grilled lines on the burger are not real they are Painted on. So next time i see a food commercial I will try not to be so temPted to eat it because I know it will not be as good as it looks in the commercial.

I have learned a lot about advertising on commercials for TV and the radio. I look at commercials differently because i listen to what they say more carefully and see if the product would actually work. I now also see what has been affective in the commercial and what makes me want to buy it
